3 Tips to Fix Unreliable Wireless Connections

Generally speaking, wireless computer connections are reliable. However, nothing is perfect, and sometimes you may lose your connection or experience a weak signal. There are many factors that impact the reliability of your wireless connection.

For example, if your wireless adapter is too close to a 2.4 GHz wireless telephone, you may notice a decrease in your computers wireless single strength. Why? Because the phone and the computer reside on the same frequency and can interfere with each others performance.

Handy Repair Checklist for Wireless Interruptions

1. First check to see if your cable or DSL is actually working. Usually located in your basement, most modems have four lights. You have a live Internet connection if the data?or status?light is on. If its off, or flashing, your cable is out.

2. If your cable/DSL is working, then reboot your computer. Sometimes, if your cable/DSL goes out for even 10 seconds, your computer and the wireless router may no longer be able to talk to each other. By rebooting your computer, a new IP address is assigned, allowing them to once again communicate.

3. If your desktop is wireless and youve moved the wireless adapter [the box that sits next to the computer with antennas], then you may need to move the adapter until you find a stronger signal.

Do's and Don'ts of Self-Publishing

It used to be where people who self-published were considered neophytes who weren't good enough to be published by more traditional publishers. They clung like barnacles to the edges of the book world, trying but not gaining access to the inner sanctum -- a place on the shelves of Barnes & Noble and a trip to Oprah's couch.

These days, however, self-published authors can make themselves lots of money, build platforms for the launch of further projects, and even sell their books at Barnes & Noble. Some have landed deals with larger publishers after selling a few thousand books with their own blood, sweat & tears, and even found themselves face to face with the Queen of the book clubs herself.

The first Do of self-publishing is to grant yourself the power to see your words in print. No one is going to come down from on high and give you permission to be published, so you might as well start with a hearty pat on the back for finishing a book. After all, its almost a national joke about how many people are writing or planing to write the great American novel at some nebulous time in the future. You are the only one who can truly decide to empower or dis-empower yourself at this juncture.

The second major Do of self-publishing is to do your research. Most people are in such a hurry to see their words in print that they neglect what will happen after the printer delivers 40 or 50 heavy boxes of books to their doorstep. Enterpreneur publishes a great step-by-step start-up guide for Self-Publishing Businesses that teaches you how to market your book, get repeat business, manage your business finances, and more.

The third major Do of self-publishing is to hone your writing until it shines. New Novelist, from Write Express, is software that can help, whether you're writing fiction or narrative non-fiction. The software takes your idea and builds it intuitively into a full-fledged story, and comes with testimonials from no less than Will Self, a novelist published many times over. Your writing will sparkle, and you'll be a lot less frustrated if you use this important tool.

The first major Don't of self-publishing is don't expect someone to sell your book for you. If you're self-publishing, you're taking on the roles of author, publisher, publicist and distributor, so you will need to think up clever ways to connect with your potential readers. One way I find extremely helpful is to hook up with Verizon Super Pages. They can help you get a web site up and running, if you plan to sell your book this way, or even help you bring some money in, through Pay-Per Click Advertising, while you're waiting for people to purchase your wares. It's a great place to place ads and start getting your name out there.

And the last major Do of self-publishing is be as loud and proud about your book as you want to be. Yahoo Search Marketing has one of the best and fastest ways to get noticed in the crowded world of books. Sponsored Search puts your book in front of millions of eyes, alongside relevant articles and product reviews. Fast-tracking your listing will widen your reach, including your listing on CNN.com, AltaVista.com, and some of the other largest sites currently in business. Doing it this way not only ensures you traffic to your site, it cements your reputation as an expert and an author.

That leads us to the last really important Do of self-publishing, which is to celebrate your achievement. Writing a book is not easy -- that's why we lionize (some of) our writers. Take pleasure in the fact that you have successfully put your thoughts into print, and are well on your way to publishing success!

Tel Aviv Free Wi-Fi City - Heaven For Wired Business Travelers

The city of Tel Aviv has become a paradise for international business travelers seeking to stay in touch with their home offices while they visit the Holy Land. With the many hotspots and free Wi-Fi services offered at hotels, restaurants, fast food chains and cafs, business travelers can check e-mail almost everywhere, make free transatlantic VoIP calls using Skype, and browse the net to keep abreast of the latest news in their respective fields.

The rapid growth in the number of wireless Internet users around the world has created a need for many people to rely on Wi-Fi connections while traveling. The advantage of using Wi-Fi is that it gives business and leisure travelers added mobility and flexibility.

The ability to access the net from almost everywhere has become a necessity for business travelers who want to keep in touch with colleagues and clients regardless of their physical locations, and who want to check e-mail between meetings. Those equipped with smart-phones and other wireless handheld devices, such as Blackberry, can use them all around Israel without difficulty.

A Wi-Fi Alliance survey indicates that 70 percent of current and prospective Wi-Fi users report they are more likely to take their notebook computers when traveling on vacation thanks to the widespread availability of wireless networking hotspots in airports, hotels, parks, and restaurants. Wi-Fi provides a quick and simple means for travelers to change flight and hotel reservations, reserve rental cars and conduct last-minute trip planning. Travelers also find Wi-Fi helps them locate restaurants, gather information about local events and find popular as well as "off-the-beaten-track" attractions.

Unlike Europe and the United States where most places charge for internet use, almost all establishments in Israel's business capital offer Internet services free of charge. Take, for example, the Atlas Hotel chain. Atlas grants all its guests free, unlimited broadband access to the Web from the hotel lobby, meeting rooms or from private guest rooms using a Wi-Fi hot spot, which is an area that allows high-speed wireless Internet access.

According to a recent survey, there are more than 200 hotspots available for laptop users in the greater Tel Aviv area alone. The majority of these are offered by hotels, restaurants and coffee shops, but visitors to Israel can also access the net at gas stations, hospitals, parks, universities, shopping malls and other places of interest such as Rabin Square in downtown Tel Aviv.

The number of hot spots in Israel has been doubled in each of the previous few years and is expected to continue growing at that pace in the foreseeable future. Any businessman with a laptop computer can check e-mail almost anywhere without having to pay for it.

Here is a list of hotspots in Tel Aviv that offer free high-speed wireless Internet access:

Hotels

The Atlas hotel chain offers unlimited and free of charge Wi-Fi services in six of its Tel Aviv hotels: Basel Hotel, Tal Hotel, Melody Hotel, City Hotel, Cinema Hotel and Center Hotel. The services is available in the main banquet halls, restaurants, pool area, bar and the hotel lobby.

Coffee Bars

Arcaff chain not only offers real Italian espresso in Tel Aviv, but also offers high quality wireless access in its coffee bars, from Ramat Aviv mall in north Tel Aviv to Rothschild Boulevard at the finance center of the city.

Other large coffee chains - including Aroma, Cup 'O' Joe, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Coffee To Go, and Ilan's offer free wireless services, as do Marilyn Monroe Caf, Noah Coffee, Coffee Print and others.

Restaurants & Fast Food Chains

Leading American fast food chains McDonald's and Burger King offer free wireless services in their branches in Tel Aviv. In addition, there is a Wi-Fi spot in the Brasseire Restaurant on Ibn Gavirol Street near Rabin Square, Kyoto Salsa restaurant and Messa, one of Tel Aviv's most elegant restaurants.

Convenience Stores and Gas Stations

The Yellow chain, located at Dor Alon gas stations and Sonol gas stations offer free Wi-Fi services.

Public Places

At the trendy Tel Aviv Port there's no need to enter one of the many restaurants or bars in the area. This prime entertainment center features Wi-Fi Internet access, meaning web surfers and businessmen can take a seat on the boardwalk and connect to cyberspace.

Dizengoff shopping mall in central Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion International Airport also feature Wi-Fi hotspots.

So don't think twice about taking a laptop on a business trip to Tel Aviv. One is immediately connected upon landing in Israel - not just to the warm, friendly people of the Holy Land, but to all people connected to the net. Home away from home, they call it in the hospitality industry.

What Is SDSL Broadband?

SDSL or Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line is a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) variant. SDSL Broadband provides a high-speed internet access service, with matching upstream and downstream data rates ranging from several speeds from 512K to 2MB. With SDSL Broadband, data can be sent to the internet from the client machine or received from the Internet with equal bandwidth availability in both directions, hence its name Symmetric.

In most often cases, the DSL service is asymmetrical (ADSL), with the bulk of the bandwidth reserved for receiving data, not sending it because of the limited uploading known by users. However, unlike ADSL, it cannot co-exist with a conventional voice service on the same pair as it takes over the entire bandwidth. So using your phone line and the SDSL simultaneously is impossible. This broadband also runs at a contention ratio of 10:1 at the exchange compared to 20:1 or 50:1 for ADSL. This means that in a worst case scenario instead of sharing your connection with 19 or up to 49 other users, you'd only share it with 10.

Although SDSL is not available in all areas, speeds might vary depending upon your physical distance from local hubs and your provider. This broadband service is also a little more expensive from the other services, but well worth the difference for those with demanding upstream needs like small businesses. It typically falls in price between ADSL and T-1, and it is mainly targeted at small and medium businesses who may host a server on site, and want to use DSL, but don't need the higher performance of a leased line.

Also apart from small businesses, SDSL Broadband can also serve individuals that require high upload speeds. Network sharing, for example, has become very popular and with it the need for uploading programs and files - often extremely large files. SDSL is a good choice for heavy network sharing, as long as the user has a second telephone line to dedicate to the service or chooses to suspend telephone services while online. This broadband is also especially useful for home-workers needing faster upload speeds, or who host a server on site (such as a Virtual Private Network or Terminal Server).

SDSL Broadband service is an "always on" service, meaning that the computer is actively connected to the Internet whenever powered up. If the computer always remains on, the Internet connection will be continuously active. An Internet service provider offering SDSL may offer different grades for varying prices. Generally the faster the data rate, the more expensive the service. Usually, long-term contracts are required for SDSL service regardless of the grade chosen.

You will find that they provide voice-quality, business-grade access without port blocking or proxy servers. The speed of service can improve efficiency and productivity of usage. In the end this broadband is an excellent choice for users who need its improved upload speed and its benefits to small business are colossal. For those who do need SDSL Broadband, it is really the best choice because of its practicality and affordability.

Derek Rogers is a freelance writer who writes for a number of UK businesses. For Business Internet Services he recommends Iconnyx, a leading SDSL provider.

Is Your Broadband Up to Speed?

When you signed up for your broadband package, the chances are you were told you would get speeds of up to 8MB, 16MB, or 24MB. You were probably also told that this speed may not be achievable due to the distance you live from the exchange. You probably weren't told that this speed is nigh on impossible to get, regardless of where you live.

Shocking discoveries have been made as a result of broadband users taking online speed tests, which is an internet tool that checks the speed of your connection by downloading a 10MB file roughly 19 times.

These results showed that when bandwidth is advertised at up to 8MB, for example, the actual speed received can be as low as 2.2MB, regardless of your distance from an exchange. One user who lived close to an exchange received just 9 Mbps of the advertised 16 Mbps. The lowest speed recorded in these speed tests was a meagre 0.09Mbps, which isn't much faster than dial-up.

Unfortunately, there is little the consumer can do to gain faster broadband speed. Computeractive magazine has taken a petition to Downing Street to try and prevent misleading advertising by broadband providers, in a bid to get the word 'typical' on the adverts, in much the same way credit cards advertise 'typical APR'.

Surprisingly, price isn't necessarily a factor in determining bandwidth. A cheap broadband package can be just as slow or fast as a more expensive one. Sometimes switching your provider can help, but it can be costly and stressful, especially if you're trying to end a contract early.

Check all your connections and wires first of all, and if you can't see a problem with those, contact your provider to see what they suggest. You may need an upgrade on your modem, or maybe even a new PC.

Bear in mind that certain times of the day, the internet is slower for everybody. Peak times in the UK tend to be between 4 and 6pm, when people tend to log on at the same time, thus clogging up the exchanges.

Broadband - Going Underground, Broadband Through Sewers

You know what it's like, another day, another commute to work, another set of roadworks somewhere along the way. Chances are they're probably working on the telecoms cables beneath the surface.

However, the idea of running a fibre-optic network beneath the surface could soon come into practice.

Fibre-optic cables transmit data using light pulses down glass or plastic fibres - which are not prone to outside interference, and could therefore help deliver ultra-fast broadband across the UK.

Such cabling networks are already being implemented in Japan, but also in some cities - such as Paris - making use of vast sewer systems in order to deliver high-speed broadband connections through fibre-optic cabling to homes and businesses.

With a sewer network of over 360,000 miles existing in the UK, the idea of threading cables through underground pipes in order to help deliver high-speed broadband services may sound far-fetched, but it could soon become a reality.

A networking firm in Wales are currently in talks with several councils about the possibility of laying fibre-optic cables - which could potentially lead to faster broadband services becoming available, whilst eliminating the need to spend time and money digging up the roads.

Universities in Aberdeen, Bournemouth and Bath have been used to trial such methods of cabling on a small scale. However the firm have been negotiating with councils and water boards to try and strike a deal which could see fibre-optic cabling being laid over wider areas.

Cables would lie up to five metres below the surface, and as fibre optic cabling is believed to be less prone to erosion and rust, it could prove to be the next phase in delivering ultra-fast broadband connections across the UK.

With more of us running a speed test on our broadband connection - and becoming increasingly frustrated with the results we get back, could a new system of networking help to speed up the broadband infrastructure and give businesses and gamers alike the bandwidth they've been craving for what seems like years now?

Looking for better broadband? Perform a broadband speed test and compare broadband providers to find a deal that suits you.

Broadband - A Cure for Financial Isolation?

Broadband speeds differ a tremendous amount throughout the UK, but if you're "out in the country", it's a fair bet that the speeds you're experiencing are far from what you would like.

A study published by the Commission for Rural Communities (CRC) has revealed that a mere 4.3% of customers is rural areas get a download speed of over 4Mbps, compared to 30% of customers in towns and cities. The report also uncovered some other disappointing figures, with regards to rural access to ATM's, banks and Post Offices. As around a fifth of the UK's population live outside of towns an cities, its surprising that less than 10% of the UK's ATM's can be found in such location's.

According to the report, many rural residences have to travel just over a mile before they will reach a Post office, and around 2.5 miles for an ATM, bank or building society!

Even though broadband speeds are fairly disappointing for people "out in the sticks", it's not a matter that isn't being addressed. The findings of the report have urged the private sector to better cooperate and understand the needs of the rural residence. One example of this is plans put forward by the British Bankers' Association to make available more ATM's and so-called 'mobile banks' in rural areas over the coming years.

It's worth noting though, that currently 15.7 million Britons are making use of their banks online services. Therefore, even if your broadband connection is poor, there should be no reason you too can't benefit from such services.

Wireless Broadband and IP Telephony

The advent of wireless broadband has put a new twist on people's mobility and communications. Wireless broadband connections can take many different forms. From an extension of conventional wired networks in your home or office, to wireless coverage of entire metropolitan areas, to the proliferation of WiFi hotspots all over the world - the Internet truly makes the world a global place.

Wireless Broadband and IP Telephony

Companies like Clearwire and Mobilepro Corp are connecting college campuses, even whole cities to the Internet wirelessly. Using fixed point to point, point to multipoint, and Non-Line-of-Site (NLOS) technologies, these companies can eventually cover areas of dense population that will rival the cellular networks.

Worldwide, even in remote locations, WiFi hotspots only need a little electricity and a satellite uplink to connect to the world.

Wireless broadband and IP telephony have the most potential in the small business and traveling community. A small business with branch offices spread around the country (or the world for that matter) could save considerably on their telecommunication expenses utilizing VoIP. As would the traveling salesperson staying at a far away hotel, more and more of which have their own wireless networks. Just pick a provider, find a hotspot and watch your phone bill drop.

IP Telephony over wireless broadband is emerging as a viable alternative to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), and is even encroaching on the cellular communications industry. Whereas the big cellular networks put in place by companies like Sprint and Verizon have done a good job blanketing North America, and Europe, the cost to the consumer can be cut even more by utilizing the Internet to transport voice.

VoIP and the Cellular Networks

IP telephony is a disruptive technology, meaning that it has the potential to turn an existing market upside down. Imagine how the Telco's felt when a long distance call for which they used to charge a dollar a minute can now be made for pennies. Needless to say, the Ma Bells and mobile phone companies will resist this change, but as the technology evolves, adoption seems inevitable.

Just as the sound quality on cellular networks are generally less than land lines, massive adoption of mobile phones show that people are willing to tolerate loss of quality for convenience. Quality of sound over an IP connection can be anywhere from a dropped call to cell phone quality, to the equivalent of a land line connection, depending on network utilization.

The advantages of VoIP over conventional telephony are becoming clearer, but what would be the advantages of IP Telephony over cellular phones? While both cell phone companies and the pure-play VoIP providers have monthly plans, internet phone companies do not charge more for prime time, and the monthly service charges are significantly less. Most mobile phone companies offer free nationwide long distance in the U.S., whereas Vonage, for example offers free calls throughout the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Europe.

One major trend in the telecommunications industry is Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC). The technology would allow cell phone handsets to seamlessly switch between cellular networks and a landline network infrastructure. The landline network would be WiFi or Bluetooth, and would connect directly to the PSTN, or a broadband Internet connection, allowing both cellular and/or VoIP and PSTN phone calls.

International rates with VoIP are the lowest to be had, to some countries as low as 2-3 cents a minute for a call to a PSTN number. Calls to cell phones however, are charged at a much higher rate.

WiFi Cell Phones

Essential to the widespread implementation of wireless VoIP is, of course, the hardware- the phone itself. While many pure-play Internet phone companies have had WiFi telephones for a while, the ideal solution would be a cell phone that goes both ways. Companies like Truphone have furthered the cause by developing an Open Source application based on the widely accepted Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which allows a seamless transition from the Internet to the PSTN.

Nokia, a leading manufacturer of cell phones, has developed a line of "Smart Phones" starting with its E60 series that is dual band and can switch between cellular and WiFi networks. Their latest innovation, the N80, combines all the latest technology and truly is a "smart" phone. These phones will automatically switch back and forth while roaming between cellular and WiFi networks, purportedly without dropping the call.

IP Telephony over wireless networks is a technology just out of its infancy, and is yet to become wide spread. The cost effectiveness of routing voice packets over the internet as opposed to land lines, or even cellular networks, cannot be denied. But don't expect the Telco's or the cellular phone companies to embrace this technology wholeheartedly until they can figure out a way to make a profit.

What is Broadband?

Broadband - Advanced telecommunications capability is any infrastructure capable of delivering data at a speed of 200 kbps per second in both direction. To be considered a broadband service, the transmission would have to support 200 kbps in both directions . Broadband technology is the high speed transmission of digital data. Additionally, broadband connections are always on. With broadband there is no need for dial-up because the connection is constant. The broadband services are so good at low prices.

Types of Broadband Services

1.Cable modems

2.DSL (digital subscriber line)/ADSL(asymmetric digital subscriber line)

3.Satellite

The actual cable modem is simply a piece of equipment that converts the data transmissions. The modem connects to the cable television and the computer. The transmission of both upstream and downstream data on the cable television system requires two types of equipment: a cable modem on the customer end and a Cable-Modem Termination System (CMTS) at the cable provider's end.

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technologies that provide digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network. The download speed of consumer DSL services ranges from 256 kbps to 24,000 kbps, depending on DSL technology, line conditions and service level implemented.

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a form of DSL, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional voiceband modem can provide.

Satellite broadband is a most effective way of transmitting all types of data such as fax, video, audio and the Internet. You can also use Satellite broadband to make low-cost telephone calls using VOIP.

Internet: Communication Through Technology Including Video and Audio

Who hasnt heard about the internet? No one! Unless, of course, you have been living in a cave for the past decade! The internet is the crowning achievement of the Information Age (which is what we call this age we live in). It has completely revolutionized how we communicate and how we live.

But what exactly is this thing we call the internet? In a nutshell, the internet is the interconnection of computers around the world. It allows users of these computers to communicate in a variety of ways: through email, streaming conferencing, website information, file sharing, and others.

For you to connect to the internet, you will need a computer and a connection to an ISP (Internet Service Provider). Your ISP will provide you with a connection and the means to connect to the internet.

The internet started out as a project of ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency of the US Department of Defense), which was commissioned by the Pentagon to look into the uses of networking for military purposes in 1960. From there, the internet was steadily developed to benefit the whole populace.

In the beginning, the internet could only chug along at a low data transfer rate. Today, ISPs offer speeds from 56 kilobytes per second to 10 megabytes per second or more! This allows people to transfer more data which facilitates better communication.

The internet impacts so much of our daily lives that it has become indispensable to so many people and businesses.

Uses of the Internet

1. E-mail ?Gone are the days when people had to wait weeks or even months to receive postal mail! With the internet, an email can be sent and reach its destination instantaneously! E-mails have made the world a smaller place, allowing people separated by great distances to correspond.

2. Instant Messaging, Chat Rooms ?Services such as AIM, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, and Skype allow people to send messages instantaneously, much like a phone conversation, but using written messages. There are also virtual rooms?on the internet facilitated by services developed for this reason. These rooms?allow many users to chat using written messages.

3. Webpages ?Webpages are like virtual homes on the internet. They allow people to post documents on the internet that are easy to browse through and navigate. As time haspassed by, webpages have gained more functionality. Today you can download files, submit files and comments, and do all your shopping online.

Webpages serve many functions: some promote businesses, some are purely informational, and some become money making vehicles. The internet spawned what we now call e-commerce. This involves purchasing over the internet. You can even use online payment methods such as PayPal, Paydot and other methods.

4. Streaming Services and File Sharing ?The internet also allows file sharing. This allows you to share files with other users. These files may be large or small. Streaming services allow you to receive data such as radio feeds, or even video feeds over the internet.

A Brave New World

In the past, the internet was limited to large institutions. Now residential internet has become more affordable. Todays technology even allows mobile internet! You could surf the internet from a mobile device such as a cell phone, or you could surf from your laptop in areas that offer Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity). The internet makes instant communication with the rest of the world possible. In the next few years we will see much more.

Download Music Onto iPhone

If you have an Iphone and are new to the technology of this age, then you may want to know how to download music onto iphone.

You need to get music from two separate sources. The first thing is... you will need a computer handy.

You probably already have your own music collection. Maybe a little alternative, maybe some techno, maybe rap and pop... maybe even classic rock music. You'll need to download a software program that allows you to copy music from your CDs and store them onto the hard drive. From there, you need to get a cord for your Iphone that allows you to transfer the music to the device. This piece is called a connecting lead.

"Rippers" which is a program that says what it's called. The software will rip CDs onto the computer. This does not take long because the transfer rates are much faster. You can do all of your CDs at a fast pace if you have a hard drive that is able to hold it all.

Reliable sources are not easy to come by to the Internet newcomer. People can easily get stuck doing something illegal without even intentionally doing so. Using P2P sites can and will get you into trouble by law enforcement especially if you are caught. On top of that, hackers lurk about, waiting for someone susceptible. It can be in a flash and boom; they have control of your Iphone or computer.

Take the time to research websites and found one suitable to what you are wanting. Some will give you lifetime access for a small fee. When you find a good site, join it and get the access to all the good music you can find. On top of "ripping" you CDs, you Iphone will have plenty of music for you to listen to for days to come.

Downloading music onto iphone doesn't have to be hard anymore.

visit the review site I created and see where you can find the best sites for iPhone Music!

Tips On Choosing The Best High Speed Internet Provider

High speed Internet is the way to go these days especially if you use the World Wide Web on a daily basis. In fact, many who have switched from dial up to a high speed connection have sworn that they will never go back to the days of the old method. If you are thinking about getting a high speed connection for your computer or if you want to switch Internet providers, there are a few tips to keep in mind in order to choose the best Internet provider for your high speed connection needs.

See Who Provides Service in Your Area

The first step to finding the best Internet provider for a high speed connection is to determine who offers service in your area. Since not all Internet providers offer service in every area, it is a good idea to first call around and determine what your choices are with regard to providers. From that point you can narrow down the options to the best choice for high speed connections.

Determine the Best Internet Provider With Regard to Plan Offerings

When switching to a high speed connection or selecting a new Internet provider for your computer's high speed connection you will have to peruse the plan offerings of various companies to determine which one is the best for your Internet needs. Within each high speed connection category you will come across various package options and you will have to narrow down the choices based on which package looks the best. This is another way to help you choose the best technology provider for your high speed Internet.

Figure Out Which Company Offers a Desirable Plan for the Best Price

You will also undoubtedly come across high speed plans which are similar in nature between the companies yet be different prices. Therefore, the best thing to do is determine which type of high speed package you wish to obtain and then call around to the different companies to see who offers the best deal on that desired Internet package. After all, who wants to pay more for an Internet package offered by one company when it is offered for a lesser price by another company? Shopping around for the best price is a wise thing to do in order to save money in the end.

Look at What the Company Offers in Addition to the Package Itself

Lastly, when shopping for an Internet provider which offers high speed connections you must also consider what the company offers their customers in addition to the package itself. In other words, factors such as customer service skills, availability of company representatives, technological advancements being made by the company and extra benefits offered by the provider should all be things considered when choosing your high speed Internet provider.

Combining Bling With Broadband

Every year, competitions held around the world bring together gamers from all corners of the Earth.

But these aren't just any gamers, these are the professionals, after honing their skills through participation in vast online gaming campaigns they congregate in their thousands to take part in competitions - from Major League Gaming in the US, to international contests such as the World Cyber Games.

Professional gamers look to not only have the best skills, but also the best looking PC - heavily modified to both look good and run efficiently - with a wide range of different equipment available for sprucing up your PC.

From cooling systems to neon keyboards, gamers can now modify their machines in much the same way as those who modify their cars and motorbikes. From custom cases and shiny vent covers to coolant systems involving clear pipes running intricately through their computers - usually with coloured water running through to add to the effect.

Combining bling with broadband, these enthusiasts can spend thousands on improving their systems, both inside and out, using a wide variety of themes - usually based around science fiction - in order to showcase the internal workings of their machines.

As well as the visual 'wow factor' of their machines, for these gamers the need of a reliable broadband connection is paramount to the gaming experience, for what could be worse than one of the team dropping out of the contest when their connection drops. Although for most this is not a problem, for a lot of these teams live locally to each other and are able to host LAN (Local Area Network) parties in order to co-ordinate missions, strategise amongst themselves and just generally try to outdo each other in the game environment.

However, there are some who congregate for these contests, but they could live in different countries, having to use their broadband providers to play online and strategise through use of in-game messaging and voice-chat technology. So important is a reliable connection for the purposes of online gaming, cheap broadband providers now offer a range of deals to suit every skill level of gaming, whether it be computer or console.

Professional gaming has become big business, with competitions sponsored by big budget companies - usually specialising in the worlds of technology and broadband as well as the production of the games on show. These contests generate interest from all over the world, even breaking into the world of television - with a selection of channels now available on cable television or through live streams which utilise the viewer's broadband connection.

Viewers around the world are now given the opportunity to watch the action-packed events unfold, usually through split-screen technology, which allows the progress of each participant to be monitored throughout the game.

Compare a range of broadband providers to find a cheap broadband deal that suits you.

Intel Celeron vs Pentium

The Celeron and Pentium Processors are two of Intel's best selling CPUs. They are found in a majority of home computer systems. When comparing the two processors it should be first understood that there are different types of Pentium processors - the original Pentium all the way to the Pentium 4 (the latest Pentium processor). The Celeron processors are more or less the same, although you will find them in a wide variety of speeds.

The Intel Celeron processor was always designed to be a low-cost alternative to the Pentium processor line. It is much like a car company that offers various priced cars from the luxury sedan to the economy compact. The Celeron is simply a downgraded Pentium, that almost anyone can afford (it is essentially the compact). To begin, Celeron chips have a smaller L2 cache 9128kb compared with 512kb in the Pentium 4 Northwood, which translates into slower processing speeds. In fact, current Celerons have a clock speed limit of about 2.0GHz, where as the Pentium for is capable of speed in excess of 3.0GHz. In addition, the Pentium runs at a lower core voltage because it is more energy effecient (1.75V vs. 1.5V).

In summary, the Pentium 4 is more powerful than the most advanced Celeron processor on the market. However, Intel has planned it to be this way. Many applications will work just great with a Celeron processor, despite a little less power than the Pentium 4. It is a way to save a little cash when buying a new pc - but don't forget the saying "you get what you pay for." Celeron processors are of good Intel quality, but they will never be as good as the Pentium.

This Celeron vs. Pentium review was brought to you by SciNet Science and Technology Search Engine. SciNet is not affiliated with or specifically endorses the Celeron or Pentium processors or the manufacturer, Intel Corp. Please consult the Celeron and Pentium product information and configuration before you purchase either processor. It is also a good idea to seek other up-to-date product reviews and information as necessary.

Bradley James is a senior editor at SciNet.cc, a website containing many helpful consumer electronics review articles. For more information on Celeron and Pentium processor technology, please visit our Celeron vs Pentium webpage.

How To Immediately Know Who Owns Any Phone Number With A Reverse Cell Phone Look up

A reverse cell phone look up gives you instant access to full details about any phone number. You can find out the person's name, address and plenty of other background information simply by having their phone number.

There are may reasons why you might use a reverse cell phone look up. You might be getting prank calls from a phone number you want information on or maybe you want to know why a phone number keeps showing up on your spouse's cell phone. Whatever the reason, let me show you a way to run a reverse cell phone look up for free.

Since unlisted and cell phone numbers aren't published in any phonebook, details about them aren't available in any "free" database. Instead there are specialized companies that pay money for access to these types of phone records. These companies will charge a fee to run a search, however there is a way to find out this information for free. Let's have a look.

When you have the phone number you want to "investigate", head over to Google and type it in the search box in the following format: "555-555-5555" (include the quotation marks). Hit search and take a look at your results.

People will leave their phone number online for various reasons. They might be posting a classified ad or filling out a profile page - whatever the reason, if it has been published online google will find it. If you get an exact match, look at the webpage and see what you can find out. Hopefully the person's name and address will be displayed along with other details that might help you out. Also pay attention to when this page was published so you know if it is up-to-date.

This method will often work, however if you didn't get the info you need you will want to use a paid reverse cell phone look up service. It isn't expensive and you will get full access to the person's name, address, locations and carrier details along with other background information.

You can try a free sample search at http://www.easyreversecellphonelookup.com and see how this type of search works. It's impressive to see how much you can find out about someone by only having their phone number.

To save money, look for a company that only charges a one-time fee for unlimited searches. This way you will only be billed once and can run a search whenever you want (both now and in the future). It's a lot cheaper than having to pay for each individual search.

A reverse cell phone look up comes in handy in many different situations. Try the free method listed above to see if you can find what you need. If not, look for a paid service that charges a one-time fee for unlimited searches.

Try a free sample Reverse Cell Phone Look Up to get full information on any phone number.

Bangkok - Top 10 Must-See Sights

Grand Palace

This is the archetypal Thailand tourist sight. Going to Thailand and not visiting the Grand Palace would be like visiting Windsor castle and not stopping by to have tea with the Queen (or something). The architecture is superb, the treasures (such as the famous Emerald buddha) breathtaking, the atmosphere uncannily "un-Western", you feel like you really have arrived in Asia as you walk around the Palace taking in the sights and smells.

Wat Pho

Wat Pho is another astonishing temple. This is a real working temple, with a traditional medicine centre and a massage school (you can learn how to do a Thai massage there). I'm a massive fan of Thai massage and can vouch for its effectiveness. Having suffered back pain for over 13 years it was completely eliminated after one Thai massage session and has never given trouble since. Quite incredible. Wat Pho is a fascinating place with lots of nooks and crannies to explore and some substantial treasures such as the Reclining Buddha statue.

Wat Arun

Less glamorous than the previous two Wats, Wat Arun is, however, often the sight that appears on those haunting postcards showing a Wat at sunrise or sunset - perhaps with a mist rolling up the Chao Phraya river. In fact, sunrise (or more typically sunset) is the best time to enjoy the ancient splendour of this ancient Wat. The architectural detail of the Wat is nothing short of amazing - take a boat trip there and enjoy the views from the river.

Oriental Hotel

Some would argue the Oriental Bangkok is the best hotel in the world. While that may have been true 10 years ago, that claim may be less valid today, but is not without considerable merit. While for most of us staying in the Oriental is a little beyond our budget, you can still enjoy the splendour of this fine hotel by spending an evening there. There is much to recommend it. You can sit by the river and enjoy some drinks (and a cooling river breeze), or book one of the fantastic evening dinners, complete with entertainment such as Thai dancing and music. Dinner is taken at traditional Thai "tables" - where you are effectively sitting in the ground and the food is more or less at floor level - fascinating stuff.

As you walk through the Oriental, don't forget to take a look around and especially up - the beautiful architecture of this hotel, built in 1876, is to be savoured.

Baiyoke Sky Hotel

Bangkok is a pretty stunning city with many strangely shaped and very tall buildings. The tallest is the Baiyoke Tower. It's an amazing building and you can't help to notice it on the taxi journey from the airport to downtown Bangkok. The Sky Hotel has a cafe and bar at the very top, which non-residents can use. There is live entertainment, good food and the views can't be beaten.

Mahboonkrong shopping centre (MBK)

MBK is a very famous shopping centre in Bangkok and deservedly so. It is an amazing "Aladdin's Cave" of products. Electrical, t-shirts, cameras, DVDs, CDs, souvenirs, coffee shops, watches, phones...they can all be found in MBK and lots more besides. There is also a whole floor devoted to restaurants...everything from Japanese to Thai to Western and everything in between.

As well as being a great venue for shopping, MBK is also a great place for people watching. Just find a cafe, get yourself an iced tea and relax!

Jim Thompson's House

Jim Thompson is a very well known character in Thailand, not least due to his mysterious disappearance while walking in the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia. Conspiracy theories abound and involvement of the CIA is rumoured. What is known is that Jim Thompson is credited with re-generating the Thai Silk market and becoming a very successful and rich businessman in the process. Jim Thompson was also an avid collector of Thai cultural artifacts, which are still to be seen in his house, which is open to the public. The house is the traditional Thai house style.

The house is also a museum and is one of the most interesting places in Bangkok in my opinion. the architecture and design of the house is amazing and the interiors and breathtaking.

This is an absolutely must-see venue.

Chinatown

There is a very significant Chinese influence in Thailand - many Thais are descended from Chinese immigrants. As such Bangkok has a huge Chinatown, much bigger and more spectacular that either the Chinatowns of San Francisco or London in my opinion.

It's a great place to eat - there are so many restaurants and food stalls to choose from that the best thing to do is just go there and find a place you like the look of. There are also many vendors along the streets and you can buy all manner of souvenirs. I really like buying the distinctly Chinese style products such as mirrors, lanterns and religious items.

Make sure you take your camera - there will be many photo opportunities.

Dusit Park

Sometimes it's nice to get away from the hectic pace of life in Bangkok and dusit Park provides a beautiful and relaxing destination. There's a lot to the park, as well as the beautiful gardens there are several museums on site, including the King Bhumibol Photographic museums, the Ancient Cloth and Silk Museum and the Rank and Portrait Museum. They are a lot more interesting than they sound! The lakeside pavilion is also not to be missed.

Floating Market

The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is the best of the floating markets. It is located around 60 miles out of Bangkok, so is a bit of a trek, but it is worth it as most of the nearer floating markets in Bangkok are just tourist traps and unpleasant places to visit. This market has retained something of its original character. It's possible to get organised tours out of Bangkok to go there if you don't want to make your own way there.

How to Secure a Wireless Network

I use both a wired and wireless network at home. I am fortunate enough to have an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that provides up to three IP addresses. I connected a switch to my modem, and two routers (one wired, and the other wireless) to the switch. Each router has a separate IP address from my ISP. My desktop is connected to the wired router, while two laptops connect to the wireless one. I can connect either laptop to the wired router with a network cable if I choose to as well.

The biggest issue I wanted to address when setting up the wireless network is that of security. I have always been skeptical of wireless security, but since I have purchased a laptop, I decided to give wireless networking a try.

There is a lot of discussion on how to secure a wireless connection, some good, some bad, and some useless. This post will not go into detail about how to change the router settings to make it secure, but it will discuss what needs to be changed.

Administrative Credentials - Important
This is important whether you have a wireless or wired network. Ensure that all APs (access points) have a good strong password associated with the administrative account. If someone can get into your router because of a weak password, then your network can be compromised. You may also want to change the administrative ID as well.

Enable WPA Encryption - Important
This is probably the most important security measure to take when securing your wireless network. The previous standard called Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) was easy to crack within about 30 seconds.

The new Wi-fi Protected Access (WPA) is more secure and should be enabled. You must also choose a passphrase that will be needed for each computer to connect to your router. Choose a passphase that is long, hard to guess, but easy to remember. Write it down somewhere so you don't forget it. For assistance on creating a strong passphrase, please read my post on creating secure passwords. Follow the advice, but just make the passphrase longer.

Reducing the IP Addresses - Important
Routers allow you to limit the number of IP addresses they assign. If you have one computer, have the router assign only one IP address. If you have three computers, then the router should assign three IP addresses. This won't prevent someone from getting into your network, but if all computers are connected, then the router won't assign any more IP addresses to another computer.

Turning Off Router - Important
If you are going to be away for awhile, such as on vacation, simply turn off the router. If the router is off, then no one will be able to connect to it while you're away. You won't lose your router settings, and simply turn it back on when you return.

Turn off SSID Broadcast - Not Important
This is a debatable option with regards to a wireless connection. Many people would argue that not broadcasting your SSID will help with security. My opinion is that it won't really provide security. Those who you are trying to gain access to your wireless network can easily determine your SSID, whether it is broadcast or not. I have also had problems with connecting to a wireless network when the SSID is not broadcasted, so I leave my setting on broadcast.

Using MAC Filtering - Not Important
Similar to broadcasting the router's SSID, this is also a debatable point. An IP address is specific to a computer, a MAC address is specific to a network adapter within that computer. Enabling MAC filtering on your router only allows specific network adapters to connect to the router. While this may seem like a good idea, it can be a headache to manage the MAC addresses for all the computers that will be connecting to the wireless router. A knowledgeable person will also be able to "spoof" (imitate) a MAC address so it doesn't guarantee security.

Summary
There are many settings that can be changed in your wireless router to make your network secure. This article has listed many of them, and you can make use of all of them or only some. The following, however, should be done to make your connection secure:

  • Changing the administrative password and ID.
  • Enabling WPA encryption.
  • Reduce the number of IP addresses.

How To Find Somebody's Address With Just A Telephone Number

You have a telephone number but you want a name, what do you do? You will probably search through the yellow pages and try to find a name but it never helps unless it is a landline number. There is no point in trying to find the information using the traditional, bulky phone directories because cell-phone numbers and private numbers are not listed there. So is there really a way out? Until a few years back, the only option was a detective but then why pay a detective so much for finding a name? Exactly, that is probably one of the reasons why reverse cell phone directories are thriving.

A reverse cell phone directory is basically a database of name, numbers, and other information. A reverse cell phone directory makes it easier to search for a name using just the number, which could be a landline, cell phone and even an unlisted number. This has been made possible because of the extensive and comprehensive database that some of the reverse cell phone directory companies have. As a result, you will not have to go too far to find an address using a number. All you will need is access to the internet, a phone number and you can start your search.

A number-name search on a reverse cell phone directory taken not more than a couple of seconds and the interesting thing is that you will not only get the name of the person but also other details pertaining to his/her identity. You will get the street address, city, state, zip code, and even email address. Now isn't that revealing? This has been made possible because the reverse cell phone directory websites have their own database of cell phone numbers, unlisted or private numbers, addresses, and email ids. They pay phone companies to buy this information and hence are able to offer you the information for a minimal fee. It is not necessary that the reverse cell phone directory might be able to find a name always for the number you have provided, but yes, most of the time they will be able to pull up a name and other details.

If at all, you are unable to find the name of a person related to a particular number then in all probability, it is an unlisted cell phone number. It is always difficult to find information regarding unlisted phone numbers. Therefore, if you have an unlisted or private number then you need to find a reverse cell phone directory service that caters to unlisted numbers only.

John Wood has written many articles reviewing the various reverse cell phone lookup services available on the internet. You can start your own free reverse phone numbers search and read more articles at his site Reverse Cell Phone Directory.
